WHAT IS A SUPERFATTED SOAP?
A soap surgras contains a part of unsaponified oils. These oils provide several benefits, helping to hydrate and nourish your skin. 
 

WHAT IS COLD PROCESS?
Cold process is a traditional method of making soap known in the seventeenth century.

As the name suggests, the soap is made at a very low temperature, retaining all the benefits of vegetable oils and butters as well as essential oils.

Unlike Marseille soap and Aleppo soap, no cooking is necessary.

One of the remarkable advantages of cold saponification is that it generates natural glycerine which is entirely preserved in the soap, which is not the case with other manufacturing processes. This natural glycerine produces an incomparable moisturizing effect!

Cold soap is the result of a chemical reaction between fats (oils and vegetable butters) and the mixture of water and caustic soda.

It is then the action of stirring the mixture which initiates the saponification.

When the soap paste reaches the correct consistency, it is poured into a mold and left to rest for 24 hours. At the end of this time, the soap has hardened and can be demolded and cut.

Then, a period of one month is necessary to complete the saponification: it is the cure.

In Milca Soap, we make sure to let our soaps dry a minimum of one additional month to ensure more hardness, and therefore, longer life.

A good tip is to let your soap dry, perfuming your drawers, for example!

For best preservation, keep your soap dry on a soap dish that lets water flow between uses.

The Milca Soaps arose from the desire of a mother to concoct healthy soaps for her family.

It is for this reason that all the ingredients of our soaps are recognizable. That's good, nothing questionable. Reading our ingredient lists is like reading a recipe, with ingredients that nourish.

Our commitment is to offer you a good product for you and good for the environment. Our soaps are biodegradable, perfect to use everywhere, even when camping!
 

HOW TO READ INGREDIENTS?
We chose to list ingredient names in French and English first because we are proud of every ingredient we use!

Then, in parentheses, you will find the names of the ingredients according to the INCI * composition. The ingredients are listed in descending order.

* International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients: coding of ingredients by their Latin or chemical name that meets international standards for cosmetic products.
 

WHY NaOH DOES NOT APPEAR IN INGREDIENTS?
When making soaps, a mixture of water and NaOH is used to start the process of saponification of vegetable oils and butters. Without soda, there would be no soap.

At the end of the cure, which lasts 1 month, the saponification is complete. Soda has done its job and is no longer present in the soap.

Instead of olive oil, it is now saponified olive oil that contains the soap. In parentheses, you will find the INCI term "Sodium Olivate" instead of "Olea Europea Fruit Oil" which confirms to you that it is indeed a saponified olive oil.

CAUTION: If the ingredients do not contain saponified oils (Sodium ... ate) it is most likely a soap based detergent, usually from oil and therefore harmful to you and the balance of ecosystems ...
 

DOES THE WEIGHT OF SOAP CHANGE WITH TIME?
Milca soaps have a weight of 115 g. Of course, over time, all soaps dry up and lose a few grams of water.

When demolding, our soaps weigh between 130 and 140g. The cure and the month of drying will make them lose a few grams of water to stabilize them a little above 115g.

If it happens that your soap weighs a little less than 115 g, good news, it has benefited from a longer drying and will therefore melt less quickly to use!
 



HOW TO PRESERVE MY SOAP
A surgras soap is an extra rich soap that melts a little faster than a commercial soap. It is important to always keep your Milca soap dry between uses.

A soap dish that lets the water run off is your best ally to allow the soap to keep its hold and last longer. It is also preferable that the soap does not soak in the water at bath time ... maybe it's better not to leave son or little son to use it as a small boat!

Also, it is strongly advised to keep your soap away from direct light sources and sources of heat ... just like any good oil.

Indeed, without these precautions, the available oils in the form of surgras could go rancid. This would not affect the cleaning quality of the soap but would make the texture and smell much less pleasant!
 

WHY DO WE NOT USE REFINED PALM OIL?
Palm oil is an ingredient of choice in soapmaking. It is also less expensive than many other oils, which makes it very interesting from a commercial point of view!

Nevertheless, the huge global demand for palm oil is causing unfortunate collateral damage to the environment and wildlife.

Indeed, several palm oil producers are causing extensive deforestation to increase the area of ​​cultivation, threatening several local animal species!

That's why we chose not to use palm oil in our soaps.

MILCA SOILS ARE VÉGANE?
A soap based on olive oil has innumerable virtues but not only .... Indeed, olive oil provides less resistance to soap than palm oil (which we choose not to use).

That's why we use, in almost all our soaps, beeswax for its hardening effect. Beeswax gives more hold and therefore, longer life with soap.

In addition, it is an ingredient of choice for skin care thanks to its many beneficial properties. It is bactericidal, emollient, softening and soothing. It helps the skin to maintain its hydration.

So, only one of our soaps is vegan, Shea Butter (40%) Nature!
Thanks to the high amount of shea butter, this soap naturally has more hold than our classic range.

It is also the ideal soap for very sensitive skin as well as babies and pregnant women who are recommended to avoid the use of essential oils!
